Wolfgang Vieweg

After a lengthy illness Wolfgang Vieweg passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Portage la Prairie, at the age of 86 years.

Wolfgang will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marga of Portage la Prairie; sons Steven (Christine) of Winnipeg, Mark (Christina) of Victoria BC, Eric of Buffalo Point MB and Ralph of Winnipeg; daughter Barbara (Thomas) Shumski of Winnipeg; grandchildren Monica (Kris), Lisa, Richard, Megan, Cameron, Jessica, Benjamin, Samuel, Cathy, Natasha, Erica and Dale; great granddaughter Rubee; daughter-in-law Elizabeth; Wendy; and many relatives in Germany that the family has been in close contact with over the years.

Wolfgang was born and raised in Germany. In 1955 he and Marga immigrated to Canada and settled in Quebec where Wolfgang was a chemical engineer in the papermill for 16 years. As his last child finished school, Wolfgang began his schooling at seminary and obtained his Masters of Divinity. He and Marga moved to Oyen Alberta and ministered there until 1992. They retired to Portage to be near their children and grandchildren. Wolfgang found much pleasure in playing the piano, writing, reading, drawing and painting. He was involved in his church, the Herman Prior Center and later as he was adjusting to his own loss of sight he got involved with the Vision Impaired Association. Although Wolfgang had a typically stubborn side to him, he also was very caring and had a great sense of humor and will be missed by those who loved him.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church, 35 2nd Street SW, Portage la Prairie. Wolfgang will be laid to rest at Transcona Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Wolfgang's memory to Douglas Campbell Lodge Foundation, c/o Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524- 5th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A8 or to Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, Ont., M4Y 3G2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
