William Charles “Sonny” Welton
Peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Portage District General Hospital, Sonny Welton passed away at the age of 72 years.
Sonny was predeceased by his parents Charles and Jean Welton; siblings Jack Welton and Florence Welton.
He is survived by siblings Irene Welton of Portage la Prairie, Barbara Welton of Winnipeg, Dorothy (Bob) Brigham of Winnipeg; niece Sheralin Brigham; great nephew Lucas and nephew Jason Brigham.
Sonny was born on March 16, 1941 in Portage la Prairie and diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth. He lived with his family until he moved to Kin-Glen Group Home in 1992 and acquired a second family of Judy, Joy, Joan, Alison, Clarence, Wayne, Tom, Cynthia, Steve, Linda and Janice.
He had a good sense of humour and loved to tease members of his families. Sonny spent many hours watching hockey on TV and spending time with family.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Sonny’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7 or to a charity of one’s choice.
