William “Bill” Unrau
January 25, 1926 – January 9, 2014
Peacefully on January 9, 2014, William “Bill” Unrau passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 87.
Left to treasure his memories are his kids; Stella (Mel), Wendy (Don), Everett (Wendy); grandchildren Danny, Patti, Bobby, Amy, Lanissa and Tara; seven great grandchildren and all those who got to know him.
Dad was born at Lowe Farm to a family of seven brothers and sisters. He joined the army in 1944 and was sent overseas. Dad married mom (Olive Switzer) in 1950 and had three children. He worked at various places throughout his life. His last place of employment was Canada Packers in the Gainsborough area until his retirement in 1988. In his early years he played the bagpipes, accordion and enjoyed horseshoes. He was an avid watcher of curling, baseball and hockey throughout his whole life.
A special thanks to Dr. Gray and the entire staff on Medical at the Portage Hospital for their care and compassion during the last month. It made it easier to know that he was being well taken care of.
In keeping with William’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service and a private family burial will take place at a later date.
Thanks for the memories Poppa until we meet again.
