William "Bill" Glen Chapple
July 9, 1944 – December 7, 2014
Peacefully with Barb at his side, Bill passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He was predeceased by his parents Edith and Ted Chapple. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Barb; daughter Terri Gettle (Darcy) and children Matthew and Tyler; son Brock and children Holly and Luke; step-daughter Andrea Roteliuk (Rob) and children Brennan, Paige, Kaylee (Tyler) and Rob Jr. and sisters Eileen Cole and Sharon Stonehouse (Ed) and families.
Bill was born July 9, 1944 in Virden, Manitoba and grew up in Elkhorn where he received his education. He later moved to Brandon and Portage la Prairie while working for MPI. In 2004 Bill and Barb moved to Red Deer, Alberta. These past two years were spent in Morden.
Bill was a kind, loving man with a great sense of humour who always thought of others. He enjoyed Friday games night with friends.
Bill was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed playing hockey and refereeing which he did for many years including the WHL. But baseball was his #1 sport. He played in the MSBL, most prominently with the Brandon Cloverleafs. Bill was honoured to be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame not only as a member of two different teams but also as an individual player. He was a die-hard Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and he always said there are two kinds of Rider fans – “those who are and those who wish they were”.
Bill was involved with United Commercial Travellers. He held various offices including Grand Counsellor for Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Bill was always quick to volunteer for any community event.
At Bill’s request there will be no funeral service. If friends wish, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7; Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 108 B Saskatchewan, Ave. E. Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0L1 or to a Local Children’s Sporting Program.
Love you forever and always
Cross my Heart
Barb
