Peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2016, Wilfred Lake passed away with family by his side at Lions Prairie Manor age of 80 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Hazel; parents Gladys and Jack; children Marvin(infant), Charlene (Lake) Ward; granddaughter Sierra; siblings Allan, Elva, Della, Dorothy and Jack(infant).  Left to cherish Wilfred’s memory are his children Debbie Melanson (Paul Burke) of Portage, Bobby Lake (Julie) of Kenton, Willie Lake (Cherie) of St. Andrews, Donna Wettlaufer (Glenn) of Portage and Marcel Lake (Tammi McRae) of Portage; grandchildren Nathan, Shireem, Wesley, Nathan, Robby, Nicky, Cherie, Brittney, Jennifer, Melissa, Carley, Sara, Sam, Brad, Maggie, Chris, Becky, Zack and Shianne; 38 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; wife Joanne; siblings Joyce Gale (Ken), Brenda Vandel (Rennie) and Linda Lake all of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews.

Wilfred was born on July 24, 1935 in Portage la Prairie.  He married Hazel and they had 7 children together.  Wilfred spent most of his life working as a bricklayer, and was a very hard worker.  He loved to meet people and could make friends easily, and once he got to know people he enjoyed teasing them.  He had a great sense of humour, but was also very stubborn.  During his free time he loved playing bingo, cards and going out for coffee with his friends and family.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am led by Father Gerald Langevin.   Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Wilfred’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
