Virgil 'Markus' Houle

Peacefully, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, Marcus Houle began his journey to the Spirit World in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 63 years.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Tanya Shortt (Shawn Chalus), siblings Delphine (Leslie) Abraham, Barb Houle (Vernon), Norman Houle Howard Houle, Liz Yellowquill, Peter Yellowquill, Brian, Lorraine and Cory, and Tanya's mother Michelle Stoltz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends. Markus was predeceased by his parents Albert Roulette and Flora Houle, siblings Floyd Houle, Denise Flett, Peggy Eastman, Eddie Houle, Elvis Houle, Eva Fontaine and Stella Smoke and grandson Shawn Daniel John Chalus.

Marcus grew up in Altona, MB and graduated from Yellowquill college. In his early adulthood, he lived in Winnipeg and worked at a scrapyard and a furniture store and was a contract painter. He travelled all over Canada and the United States… and in all of his travels, there were only two states he didn’t get to visit.

Markus loved to visit with family and friends, and was always willing to help anyone out. He was very witty and had a great sense of humor. Marcus was a good man, and he will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

A time of visitation will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Wake will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge, Feast & Ceremony will be held on Friday, February 7, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge. Burial will follow at Long Plain Cemetery.
