Due to the new public health orders, the Street family will like to invite family and friends to join them for a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 10:00 am.
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our husband, dad and grandpa, Victor Thomas “Tom” Street, on July 12, 2021 at Portage District General Hospital while surrounded by loved ones.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Bill & Marie Street, brothers Teddy and Freddy.
Tom leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years Anne (née Carroll); sons Chris (Tracy) and Brad (Karen); grandchildren Jenni (Kyle) & Dylan; Tyler (Mackenzie) & Jasmine (Josh); sister Sharon (Marcel) Daignault; nephews Darrell & Marc; sisters & brothers-in-law: Ida & Brian Miller, Allan & Sharon Carroll and Brian Carroll; nieces and nephews Bev & Darren (Lori); Shawna (Shawn), Bob (Michelle) & Kim; Rebecca (Jeff), Felicia, & Julie (Matt), and several great nieces and nephews.
Tom was born August 8, 1943 in Portage la Prairie. After graduating from PCI he went on to complete his nursing diploma at MDC as a psychiatric nurse that lead to a 31 year career. During his nursing career Tom continued to expand his professional knowledge through continuing education and involvement with the Registered Psychiatric Nursing Association of Manitoba (RPNAM). A highlight of his time with the RPNAM was legislation that united psychiatric nursing across Western Canada.
Following retirement from the MDC, he drove school bus for the Portage School Division for 19 years. He was loved by many of his passengers and trusted by parents to safely get their children to school.
Community was very important to Tom and he knew the importance of giving back. This was made evident in his involvement in various community organizations including the Portage Lions Club, Portage Handi-van, Portage Terriers board and most recently as the chairperson for the McKenzie United Church Board.
Most of all, family was very important to Tom. His most treasured times were spent following his grandchildren to their various activities, a good game of Canasta or Crib, watching Westerns - especially John Wayne - or fishing & camping with family and friends. Tom enjoyed a good book and was an avid reader. He was a true Terrier fan and rarely missed a game. Great memories were made traveling with Anne throughout Canada and the United States…never hitting the same destination twice.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, health care aides and all the support staff for the kind and professional care provided to Tom and compassion toward the family.
