Vernice Anne Fletcher

On Sunday, November 20th Vernice Fletcher died at the Portage General Hospital surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the age of 84 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Donny Fletcher, by her son-in-law Joe Saunders, and by one sister, and her three brothers. She is survived by three sisters, Helen, Stella, and Enid, and her sister-in-law Ann Doty.

Vernice was a loving mother to Dawn (Ed) Noonan, Andy (Jody), Joyce Saunders, Sally (Gary) Sieppert, Dean, Lyle (Cathy), Sean (Cindy). She leaves to cherish her memory fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and one great great grandchildren.

Mom centered her life around her family and home. She cared for those she loved with kindness and humour. Raising a family of seven in a very small home in Westbourne, without any of the luxuries of life, may have been daunting for some, but for her it was a challenge she met every day. She was always very involved in her community of Westbourne and in her parish of St. George's Anglican Church. Mom worked at the Manitoba Development Centre in various capacities for many years. For the last three years Mom has lived happily at Douglas Campbell Lodge where she received excellent care. The family would like to thank the staff of Douglas Campbell for their loving care of our mother; you became her extended family. Her interest in her grandchildren and great grandchildren never waivered. She knew what was happening in all their lives, kept pictures of them all in her room, phoned them frequently, and cherished their visits. Even those who live at a distance she kept very close in her heart, and they always knew they were a part of her life.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Thursday, November 24th at 1:00 p.m. led by Rev. Brian Flower. Private family burial will take place in the family plot at Westbourne.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Breast Cancer Society of Canada 401 St. Clair Street, Point Edward, Ontario N7V 1P2 or the Child & Family Services of Central Manitoba Foundation, 25 a" 3rd St. S.E., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba R1N 1N1.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
