It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend at the Portage District General Hospital on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the age of 97 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Lucien, her daughter Sr. Eliza and her sons Charles, Andrew, John and Norman.  Thérèse leaves to mourn her passing her daughters May McKinnon and Gerry (Jim) Free of Portage la Prairie and Maddie (Karl) Savinkoff of Smithville, West Virginia, her sons Joe (Cecile) of Kelliher, Saskatchewan and Felix of Portage la Prairie; 16 grandchildren: Michael, Donald, Larry, Glenn, Greg, Kenneth, Annette, Jennifer, Shawn, Lisa, Nicole, Brian, Leanne, Anne Marie, Chris and Rachel, and 16 great grandchildren: Priscilla, Gavin, Sara, Samantha, Tyler, Logan, Drew, Ayden, Brendon, Therese, Miranda, Lindon, Arielle, Veronica, Austin and Marcus.  Thérèse had numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends who were much beloved and knew her as Mémère.

One of mom’s most admirable character traits was that she never had an unkind word to say about anyone.  Her greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by her children and friends.  Mom loved to garden, grow flowers, sew, make quilts, knit, make puzzles, skyping and playing cards.  She was a very generous and kind-hearted person who appreciated any gift that life would bring her.  Mom’s strong belief in God guided her through her life.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 am led by Father Eric Giddins.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Thérèse’s memory to the Good Shepherd Parish Building Fund, 114 Countess Ave. Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0T2.
