Theodore Nestor "Ted" Prystash

Predeceased by siblings Johanna, Bill and Hamsel. Ted is survived by his sister Margaret McKay of Edmonton and brother Robert Prestash of Edmonton along with several nieces and nephews.

Ted enjoyed life. His favorite times were spent in the woods. His connection with nature provided contentment.

Ted and his sister Margaret were always at the top of the class in school. To the end of his stay on earth he was intrigued by science.

The Depression forced many young men, Ted and brother Bob included, to follow crop harvests in pursuit of work. This involved "hopping on the freights."

After World War II governmental concern for Northern security led to the building of the D.E.W. Line. Ted was there from the beginning, living for the first couple years in tents. For eleven years he lived (happily) in the Arctic.

Ted was a fine carpenter of the old-school, leading him to employment across Canada, and south to Los Angeles.

Living in a log cabin surrounded by Nature seemed to provide peace, although he enjoyed frequent visits from his many friends.

Over the years many animals' lives were saved due to Ted's compassion.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Ted's memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Sask. Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3N9.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
