Theodore Martin "Ted" Guimond
Theodore "Ted" Guimond, passed away suddenly at the age of 31, on March 25, 2011 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Theodore was born on April 3, 1979 to Margaret Rose Guimond in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the middle of three children including an older brother, Alphonse, and a little sister, Lisa. The siblings spent time at the Oakwood Group Home in Winnipeg and moved to Gladstone to the Fehr foster home in about 1983. Two years later, they moved to the foster home of Keith and Lynn Tracy in Portage la Prairie.
Teddy, as he was called, attended Kindergarten at Ecole Prince Charles School, Grades 1-9 at Yellowquill School and began high school at Portage Collegiate Institute. Besides his two siblings, he shared the home with 9 other children. He was a happy little boy who enjoyed playing lego with his brothers, playing outdoors and exploring and attending Boy Scouts. He overcame his extreme fear of water and learned to swim well enough to join the Portage Piranha Swim Club. In High School, he was a member of a school curling team, which he loved.
At age 16, Teddy moved to a new foster home in Morden with the Giesbrecht family. For a few years, after high school, he traveled with a carnival and eventually settled down in Portage and then Winnipeg. Here, he was able to reconnect with his Aboriginal roots and attended an Aboriginal Self Government Program at Red River Community College.
In later years, he worked for the City of Winnipeg clearing snow and at the Comfort Inn. Teddy had a close relationship with his Tracy foster siblings. He lost his birth mom in his teen years and was a close and loving son to his foster mom, Lynn Tracy.
Ted is survived by his brother Alphonse and his nephew, Andrew; sister Lisa and her children, Sabrina, Deandre, Tyrell and Mariah. He also leaves to mourn, his long-term Tracy foster siblings: Helen, Craig, Noah, Kenneth, Jenna-Leigh, Krista-Lyn, Matthew, Tera-Dawn, Ashli-Anne, Bonni-Jean and Merica-Kate and was a favorite uncle to many of their children. He will be greatly missed by foster parents, Keith and Lynn, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation and viewing will be from 7:00 a�" 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road South, in Portage la Prairie.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Royal Canadian Legion, 275 Duke Ave, in Portage la Prairie. There will be a Potluck Feast following the service, for all those attending.
