Theodor Latschislaw
With his family at his side, Theodor (Ted) Latschislaw passed away on May 14th, at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 76. Left to mourn are his son's Charles (Audra), Christian, Darryl and his precious grandchildren Nicholas, Donovan, Alyssa, Adam, and Kate-lynn. Also, left to mourn is Ted's brother Karl (Janice) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ted was predeceased by four infant siblings, his father Emil (who died serving in the German Army in the second World War), brother Herman (who died serving in the Canadian Army in Canada), his step father Jacob, his mother Olga and, Blanche Switzer, his special friend.
Ted was born in Poland in 1935. His life in Europe before and during the second World War was dreadful. Thankfully, his mother escaped from Germany during the war with her precious surviving children and finally came to Canada in 1949.
Ted's family settled on a farm near Ridgeville, Manitoba. Ted was married to Dorothy Arlene Lang in 1963. They moved with their boy's to Portage la Prairie in 1975, while he was working for the Manitoba Hydro. Ted retired from Hydro in 1993 after 37 years of service.
Dad was an avid curler, shuffleboarder, loved gardening, playing cards and socializing with anyone who he could strike up a conversation with. Dad and Blanche spent hours gardening and preserving. He also loved his grandchildren dearly, and played with them whenever they came over to "Opa's house".
Dad's health deteriorated about 10 years ago, and he entered the Lion's Prairie Manor soon after. The family would like to thank the caregiver's from the manor for their years of patience carrying for Dad. We know he appreciated everything you did for him.
Recently, Dad entered Portage General Hospital and was very ill. Dad held on for several days , until all of his son's could be with him for his remaining hours. His care from the ICU staff was both compassionate and professional. The family would like specially to thank Nurse "Darlene" and Dr. Quesada.
Dad's life will be remembered at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Portage la Prairie on Wednesday, May 18that 2 pm.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund.
