Susan Brennan

April 18, 1950 — June 1, 2021

Peacefully and with her family by her side, Susan Brennan passed away after a short illness on Tuesday June 1st, 2021 at Portage General Hospital at the age of 71.

Susan will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law Mitch and Ashley Brennan and her grandchildren Gage and Londyn, of Portage la Prairie, MB.  She also leaves to mourn her dear sister Jacquie (Doug) Layfield of Port Coquitlam, B.C., nephews Bryan and Anthony and her step-mother Joanne Sanford.  She is predeceased by her father Claude Sanford of New Westminster, B.C. and her mother Mary Sanford of Burnaby, B.C.

Susan was born in Portage la Prairie and lived almost her entire life here, spending her career working in office administration at local businesses such as Portage Chrysler, Portage Supermarket, Munro Farm Supplies and AgWest.  She was an avid crafter – making and selling her creations became her passion for many years of her life.  Her friends and family will all cherish the clay figurines, holiday-themed Folk Art paintings, or Petit Point and Cross-Stitch wall hangings they have received as gifts over the years.

Susan was a Hockey Mom, spending countless hours in rinks in the winter and at baseball fields in the summer cheering on the kids and supporting them all – win or lose.  Later on, she was able to reprise that role with her grandchildren at their hockey games, baseball games and dance recitals.  Recently, she looked forward each month to the Hockey Moms lunch with a group who turned out to be life-long friends.

Susan was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her son Mitch and embraced every moment spent with him and his family. She especially loved her role as Gramma SueSue, her grandchildren Gage and Londyn became the centre of her world. She lived for updates on their school, sports, activities and was always willing to help out with anything they needed.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 4:00 pm. Due to covid restrictions, proof of vaccination will be required to attend.

Nobody else held me so tight,

Or made me feel so right,

No one's eyes shined so bright with love,

As my Mom, who is now high above.
