Thomas "Sid" Sidney Beck

Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, Sid Beck, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 86 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Patsy; son Patrick (Gayle) Beck; granddaughter Kenzi as well as nieces nephews and other extended family.

Predeceased by his parents Percy and Isabel Beck; brothers Percy (Alice) Beck, Trevor (Lorna) Beck; son Douglas and niece Barbara Beck.

Sid was born on March 25, 1928 at home to Percy and Isabel Beck of the Salem District.  He went to the Salem school and farmed all his life in the Salem District.  He was active with the Portage Flying Club, Portage Pairs and Square Dancers, Curtis 4-H Club with the woodworking division, West-End Hall Old Time Dances, Manitoba Pool and the Austin Reunion.  Sid also helped out in the community, always there to help others.  He did a lot of wood working besides building his own home and some of the furniture as well.  Sid worked at the Oakville Treatment Plant for 15 years, retiring in 1993 and retired from farming in 2002.  After living on the farm for a few more years Sid and Patsy moved to Portage in 2012.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, with viewing to be held prior to the service.  Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at a later date.
