Shirley Poirier

Peacefully, on Thursday, October 6, 2022, Shirley Poirier passed away at the Treherne Hills Manor at the age of 93 years.

She was predeceased by her first husband Howard Garrioch (1986), second husband Angus Poirier (1992), daughter Mavis Graham (2021), parents Harry and Bertha Richardson, brothers Wilfred, Harold, Henry and Howard Richardson.  Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her children Murray Garrioch, Linda Garrioch (Gerald Avery) and Harvey Garrioch, grandchildren Marcia and Dawna and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Shirley was born on the farm at Bagot, Mb on March 22, 1929.  She was the youngest member of the family and grew up on the farm with her 4 brothers.  Shirley attended Image Hill School, then went to Image Creek School for a short time, and graduated from MacGregor High School.  She worked on the farm to help the family for a number of years then worked at MTS switchboard, until she went back farming.  In 1951 she married Howard Garrioch and began their family, they farmed in the Hood District for 7 years.  In 1958 they purchased a farm in Edwin and made their home there until 1989.  After Howard’s passing in 1986, she married Angus Poirier in 1989 and moved to Portage la Prairie after they sold the acreage in 1990.  She moved to Treherne in 1995 to be closer to family and lived there until her passing.  She will be greatly missed by all family and those who she met throughout her life.

Funeral service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm, led by Wilma Shirriff.  Viewing will be held prior to the service and interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
