Sheila A. Cook

(nee Ward)

It is with very heavy hearts the family of Sheila Cook announces her sudden passing January 11th, 2013, one day after her 81st birthday.

Mom's family was first and foremost in her life. She was very proud of her three sons, Kelly (Betty), Mitch (Donna) and Lyall (Maxine); five grandchildren Katie (Kelly), Ross, Chad (Tatiana), Jason (Jody), Bryce (Britney); great grandson Nixon. We feel extremely blessed to have had her as our mother and grandmother.

Mom was born in Portage la Prairie, to Ed and Nellie Ward growing up with her 3 sisters and 3 brothers at Delta where her love for Delta remained with her always.

In 1951, Mom and Dad married and together raised three sons, Kelly, Mitch and Lyall. Family time was spent following their many activities where they developed several everlasting friendships.

One of Mom and Dad's greatest pleasures was their cottage at Delta. This was always a place for their children, grandchildren and friends to enjoy the beach and gained many fond memories. Many of the Ward Family gatherings were centered around the Cook Cottage. They enjoyed travelling to several destinations such as Florida, Arizona, and Branson.

Mom was very active in the community and loved to volunteer her services to anyone requiring assistance. She especially enjoyed her new home at Queen's Court and the new friends she met. Her favorite past times were attending social activities such as card games and musical events with friends in Portage. There wasn't an activity or event she would miss if at all possible.

Mom was a very special, person to her children and grandchildren. Although she is no longer with us, her loving memory and beautiful spirit will always be in our hearts. We will miss all the little things in life we shared together, her delicious cooking, her kisses, her waves good-bye, her numerous phone calls and her special gift of love.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Claire, an infant daughter, brother Tory Ward, brother Peter Ward, and sister Eileen Edmonds, brother-in-law Al Hochbaum, brother-in-law Art Edmonds, sister-in-law Joyce Ward.

She leaves to mourn her sister Joan Hochbaum, brother Russell (Wilna) sister Beulah (Jack Follett) of Edmonton, sister-in-law Joan Ward, and many nieces, nephews and numerous close friends.

Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Church on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1:30 pm led by Rev. Beth Kerr.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Sheila's memory to Trinity United Church Memorial Fund, 15 Tupper Street S., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1W7 or a charity of choice.
