Sarah Louise Alexander
(nee Berard)
It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Sarah Louise Alexander (nee Berard) at the St Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg on Friday, November 2, 2012 with family at her side.
She had been predeceased by her mother Mary Berard, father Art Berard, brother Peter Berard and father-in-law Thos Alexander.
Louise was born in Portage la Prairie on June 4, 1944 and was raised by her parents with her brothers and sisters. In December 1963 she married the love of her life and raised four boys and a foster daughter all the while following Tom from air force base to air force base, finally returning to Portage in 1983. She loved all children and took pride in her grandchildren and was especially proud to say she had a great granddaughter. When her children were young Louise volunteered with various sports teams as well as playing sports herself, she loved to dance. At different air force bases she was part of the wives clubs and winter carnivals. No matter where she found herself, Louise made a home for her family. Louise was proud of all her children but worried about them no matter their age but encouraged them to do their best at what they were doing and to be proud of who they were. There were many children that needed some love and thought of Louise as a second mom. She was especially fond of Thomas Geddes and called him her protector.
Louise is already sadly missed by her loving husband Tom; children Tom Jr., Jim (Trish), Rick (Tammie), Bob and her foster daughter Kim; grandchildren Dustin, Jennifer, Alex, Nicholas, Jessica, Noah, Morgan, Logan and Jade; great granddaughter Kiera; mother-in-law Janette Alexander; brothers Russell (Anita), Gib, Ronny, Danny, Wayne, Bob (Kim) and sisters Dawna (Dave) Penner, Joanne Lake and Susie (Roland) Reshauer as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Deacon Bill Parrack.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise's memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, C1026-409 TachAC. Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 or to a charity of one's choice.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
