It is with heavy hearts that Ruth Myron journeyed on Monday, December 21, 2020. Ruth was born on April 21, 1946 to the late William and Mary Myran on Long Plain First Nation. A dedicated lifelong worker, she worked on her parents farm until age 16 when she went to work at a clothing factory in Winnipeg. She returned to Long Plain to work as a teacher’s assistant and loved it so much that she got her degree at Brandon University in Elementary Education, becoming the first teacher from Long Plain Reserve with the longest employment history devoted to Long Plain. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her brother’s and mother sitting and talking for hours and she spent many winters as a hockey mom. Ruth loved bingo and in her later years she loved an evening out playing slots with her children and grandchildren. She never left Long Plain and dedicated her energy to her community where she spent the remainder of her years.
Ruth will be greatly missed by her children; Sharee (Nick) Fischer, Jaime (Bob) Meeches, Jerrette (Chelsie) Myron, her siblings; Joe Myran, Paul (Corrina) Myran, she will be especially missed by her grandchildren Tyson, Jessica, Makogan, Sebastian, Savannah, Noah, Nigel, Mercedes, De’Asia, Isaiah, Andreea, Cherish, Summer, Sienna, Niikaan, Sierra, Darius, Mattias, Iron Quill, Ezraiah, Orion and Micah. She was preceded in death by son Jeremy Meeches, siblings Doreen Peterson, Tony Myran, Betty Meeches, Rebecca Myran, and grandchildren Ashton Meeches and Aurora Myron.
A visitation service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Spirit Lodge in Long Plain from 12pm – 3pm. Interment will be private for family at the William Myran Cemetery, but a celebration of life will be held December 21, 2021 for family and friends to gather, reminisce, and honor the unique personality and achievements of Ruth Myran.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
