Ruth Majury

October 27, 1927 — April 21, 2013

Ruth Hila Majury

(nee Munro)

After a lengthy battle with COPD a heart of gold stopped beating, Ruth Majury passed away at the Grace Hospital on April 21, 2013 at the age of 85 years.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Elmer, her parents Jim & Amanda Munro, and her 3 siblings and their spouses Donna (Fred) Krawetz, Arnold (Jackie) Munro, and Keith (Margaret) Munro.  Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sharalyn (Doug) Hyde, Kim (Joan) Majury, Dale (Karen) Majury and Ronda (Norm) Bell; her grandchildren: Scott (Lora) Hyde & great grandson Samuel; Ross (Jana) Hyde & great grandson Luke; Jason (Nicole) Majury & great grandson Logan, Christine Majury (Justin), Megan (Matt) Gyles; Amanda Bell (Nick), Chris Bell (Breanne); and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth came into this world October 27, 1927 in Bluff Creek, Manitoba, the first born to James and Amanda Munro.  Ruth was raised on the family farm directly east of Amaranth, Manitoba. Upon completion of her schooling she taught in Reedy Creek for one year ... until Clarence Elmer Majury returned from World War II.  She and Elmer were married on July 9, 1946.  They moved to Winnipeg shortly after where Elmer began his career with Labatt’s Brewery.  Elmer became ill with leukemia - succumbing to the disease in June of 1975.  Mom continued pouring her love and energy into her family after losing the love of her life.  She worked as long as she was able and was fierce about providing for her family.  She never complained through those years even though she faced much adversity.  She excelled at providing customer service in all aspects of her life, being a problem solver and helper.

Mom’s leisure time was taken up with watching sports; the Bombers, the Moose, the Jets, the Blue Jays, and the Vikings were subject to her devotion (and to her “wrath”!); Mom was an avid “garage saler” (to the point of leaving her car running with doors wide open on the street on occasion!).  The Saturday routine included “Salisbury House” or “Smitty’s”  (where you didn’t dare try paying the bill for fear of her creating a scene!).  Gramma Ruth was so proud of each of her grandchildren – investing into their lives as much as she was able.  She was their greatest fan & cheerleader in their sports, school, family, and work endeavours.  She was also much loved as “GG” to her three little charmers (Logan, Sam & Luke).  Ruth lived a simple life; her most treasured possessions were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  In our hearts she will be lovingly remembered forever.

Her family acknowledges three special people in particular who supported her; Marina (her best friend); Valerie (her “girl Friday” and friend); and Darren (who was so diligent in keeping her suite functional for her – and a friend).  To them, and all the others who built into her life and cared for her, we are the beneficiaries of your care. Thank you, and God bless each of you.

“A cherished smile, a heart of gold, the best mother the world could hold,

Never selfish, always kind, what beautiful memories you left behind.

The tears in our eyes will wipe away, but the ache in our hearts will always stay.

To the world she was but one woman, but to us her family, she was our world.”

We found these words written in Mom’s journal:  “In life I believed in the Almighty.  In death I believed in the Almighty. Love one another. Give strength to one another.”

Mom, we love you.  You are free to run.  You are free to dance.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, MB.  Interment will take place at a later date in the Amaranth Cemetery.
