Rose Diane Beam

Peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2011, Rose Beam passed away in the Valleyview Care Centre at Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 87 years.
Rose was born July 1, 1923 to John and Anna Lawryk at Valley River, Manitoba. She was the fifth of seven children and was raised on the family farm and attended the village school in Valley River where she received an education to the level of grade 8 or 9.She had four brothers (Mike, Frank, Jack and Steve) and two sisters (Marie and Helen). Helen is her younger sister and is the only living sibling. Rose married George Stanley Beam (known as Stan) on May 25, 1945 at Portage la Prairie and together they raised two children Judy "Lynn" Smith and Don. They farmed until Stan passed away in 1966. Rose then moved into town and worked briefly at the Saan store but soon found a better position at the Women's Correctional Institute where she worked until her retirement in 1988.
Rose has 5 grandchildren (Rennie, Caury, Jason, Dana and Dallice) and 3 step-grandchildren (Darlene, Connie and Calvin). At present she has 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Rose was raised in the Ukrainian Catholic religion but changed to the Protestant faith when she married Stan. She attended Trinity United Church for many years. Rose was a longtime member of both the Order of the Royal Purple and the Ruth Rebekah Lodge. In earlier years, Rose sewed clothes and knit sweaters for her family. She used to enjoy doing crossword puzzles and playing scrabble with her grandchildren. At present her only interest was doing word seek puzzles.
A private family service will take place at a later date and she will be laid to rest beside Stan at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank the staff on the second floor of the Valleyview Care Centre for all their care and compassion.
