Rocelyn Gabriel

August 21, 1993 — January 26, 2014

Rocelyn Eleanore Liz Gabriel

Sadly on Sunday, January 26, 2014, Rocelyn Gabriel entered into rest at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 20 years.

Rocelyn will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her parents Joyce and Garry; siblings Waylon, Sharon (Roman Sr.), Connie, Olivia (Wade), Lynette and Harley; step-brothers/sisters Vanessa (Sandy), Vernon, Clayton, Quentin, Kristy and Blaine; aunts/uncles Judy (Perry) Dorion, Kelly (Clarence) Lavallee, Loretta (George) Traverse, Stella (Norman) Woodhouse, Conrad (Norma) Gabriel, Dorothy Gabriel, John Tarty, Donald (Mary) Tarty, Dale (Marsha) Tarty, Lena (Gary) Spence, Wilfred (Bernice) Catcheway, Beatrice (Gordon) Catcheway, Harold (Lucille) Catcheway, Warren Catcheway, Judy-Ann Catcheway and Margaret (Lawrence) Ferland; nieces Nevaeh, Amberleigh, Jenahya, Avery and Shaylynn; nephews Hayden and Roman Jr.; special little cousins Gary and Jared Dorion and many extended family and friends..  She was predeceased by her grandparents Wilfred and Eleanore Gabriel. Dolphus and Elizabeth Catcheway.

Rocelyn was a very kind loving person.  She loved spending time with her sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins Mindy, Leanne, Chasity, Jasmine, Justine and baby Declan.  Rocelyn loved the outdoors, hunting with her dad, driving around on the quad, listening to music and watching TV.  She loved babysitting her nieces and nephews.  She was the type of person that would always want to look her best, spending hours doing up her make-up and hair even if she was just going to the store.  She graduated high school in June of 2013.  It was her goal to further her education by taking a course in the health care field.  Rocelyn took pride in her summer employments at the Portage Hospital in the Aboriginal Internship Programs in 2012 and 2013, this is what motivated her and became her dream to become a LPN for children one day.  Rocelyn set a good example for her siblings by graduating; she was so proud that she was the first to graduate in her family who was also proud of her.  She also took pride in attaining her license.  She was very proud of her nieces and nephews during the many times she babysat and asking for very little in return.  Rocelyn was very neat and tidy person, always making sure that no one entered her bedroom without her permission.  She would know right away if anyone had been there; nothing was out of place.  Rocelyn enjoyed helping her sisters along the way with their house chores, always willing to lend a helping hand.  She would hassle her dad, she loved him and con him into buying her things and would say things in such a way that her dad would buy her more then she asked for.  She would try to motivate her dad to lose a few pounds by saying “buy salads dad” and “don’t forget the chips and drink”.  Her sense of humour was genuine.  She had dreams in what she wanted to be; she would tap her parents shoulders and say “I would look good in a nice looking car and a place to live with furniture and for you to bring my groceries and pay for it because someday I’ll be the one to take care of you so I need everything in place….right mom and dad….hint, hint”.  Her sense of humour was so remarkable.  She was so excited and patiently waiting for the arrival of her baby nephew.  She was determined to name him herself and not let her sister Olivia name him; she already had big plans for him.

Viewing and visitation will take place on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Meyers Norris Penny Exhibition Building on Island Park from 6 pm to 9pm.  Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Meyers Norris Penny Exhibition Building on Island Park beginning at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the Portage General Hospital staff and to all the people who came out to support the family.
