The members of Bob Thomson's family sadly announce that he passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, November 30, 2012.
Bob lived his entire life on the Thomson farm at Miami, Manitoba. Always quiet-spoken, he had two main passions in his life, the cattle business and sports. Bob worked diligently to develop a prize-winning polled Hereford herd. He spent many years playing baseball throughout Manitoba and was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Bob also played organized hockey for more than 40 years, where he won numerous awards and was known for his gentlemanly play.
Bob was predeceased by his father, John Ray Thomson, his mother Annie Stirling Thomson, his brother Dr. Jack Thomson (Myrtle) and his brother Bruce.
He is survived by his brother Peter (Pat) and nephews, Rae (Judy), Craig (Heather), Peter (Celia), Robert and their families.
Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family, friends and colleagues will take place at the Miami Community Centre on Wednesday, December 12 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Miami and Area Foundation Inc. (c/o RM of Thompson, Box 190, Miami, Manitoba, R0G 1H0) or the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame (c/o D. Olsen, 552 Jubilee, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 1P3).
