Robert Arthur Meeches
May 27, 1957 – September 8, 2014
57 years of age.
Predeceased by his parents Arthur & Dorothy; his sisters, Mildred, Mavis & Janis and his nephew Nathaniel. Left to mourn his passing are his sisters Cindy, Catherine/Kit-Kat, Carolyn, Naomi (Trevor) and Amanda (Farrel), and his brothers Brent (Tina) and Jamie (Lesley). He will also be missed by his step-mom Brenda as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and cherished immensely.
We will always remember our brother for his incredible kindness, compassion and generosity. He would help in any way he could if he knew there was a need. His capacity to love was limitless and he always took special interest in the “under-dogs” of this world. Robbie grew up in Long Plain First Nation with his family and later moved to Winnipeg. He also spent some time working in Vancouver before moving back home. He was an animal lover, a family historian, and he loved his culture. He was very respectful of his Ojibwa and Sioux roots and enjoyed reminiscing about stories from his childhood. He was well known to be disciplined and was also a hard worker, not only at his job but in his personal life as well.
Robbie, we are going to miss the sound of your voice, your laugh, and your words of wisdom. We thank you for all of the love you brought into our lives and know we were blessed to have you as a brother.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.

Ojibwe Prayer
Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to everyone,
Hear me
I come to you as one of your many children;
I am weak... I am small...
I need your wisdom and your strength.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
behold the red and purple sunsets.
Make my hands respect the things you have made,
and make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may understand what you
have taught my people and
The lessons you have hidden in each leaf
and each rock.
I ask for wisdom and strength,
Not to be superior to my brothers,
but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come before you with
clean hands and a straight eye,
So as life fades away as a fading sunset,
My spirit may come to you without shame.

"THE BROKEN CHAIN"
We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
