Richard (Dick) Philip Harper

December 20, 1945 – October 13, 2013

After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Dick passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 67 years.

He is predeceased by his mother and step-father Margaret and Bert Knowles; mother and father-in-law Sam and Jean Nielsen.  Dick leaves to mourn in passing his wife Dianne; children John and Dawn.  He is also survived by his sisters Carole Mydan of Saskatoon and Marcella (Wayne) Ozunko of Texas; many nieces and nephews; special cousins Herb, Beth, Valerie, Alvin and Gwen and their families; as well as his brother and sisters-in-law John and Donna Nielsen and Janice and Danny Bouchard.

Dick worked for many years for the M.L.C.C., as well as drove taxi.  He was outgoing, hardworking and helpful.  Dick also was a sports fan and played with the Wintergreens Liniment League team for many years.  He enjoyed playing golf, watching TV and taking Lola for walks.  Dick especially enjoyed his trips to the family farm in Togo, SK.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 1:30 McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, Portage la Prairie, with Rev. Marg Scott officiating.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
