Raymond William Henry Voss

Peacefully with his family at his side Ray Voss passed away at the Portage District General Hospital on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the age of 96 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mabel Voss (nee: Boak) of Portage la Prairie, son Morley (Elsie) Voss of Portage la Prairie and daughter Bev Stefiuk of Winnipeg; grandchildren Todd (Chelta) Stefiuk and Debbie (Jason) Coss; great grandchildren Matthew Coss and Jaida Stefiuk; brother Nelson (Mary) Voss of Winnipeg, sister Dorothy (Jim) White of Portage la Prairie and brother-in-law Clarence Boak of Portage la Prairie along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

Ray was predeceased by his parents Robert and Annie Voss, and by 3 sisters, Edith Simmons, Irene Smith, and Doreen Hatch.

Ray was born and raised on the family farm near Burnside and attended the Burnside School. He farmed with his dad prior to taking over the farm, and also worked at Campbell Soup. On October 28, 1939 he married the love of his life Mabel Boak and together they raised their two children. Mom and Dad celebrated 71 years of marriage last October. Ray enjoyed old time music and dancing, as well as baseball, and attending Terrier Hockey games. He had a good sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.

In keeping with Ray's wishes, there will be a private family graveside service at Burnside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Ray's memory to CNIB, Donations Processing Centre, P.O.Box 32002, Stn. Brm. B, Toronto, ON, M7Y 5R2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
