It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Gierke on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the age of 92 years at the Portage District General Hospital in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Lorne (Muriel) McKinstry of St. Albert Alberta; sons Ron (Roxanne) of Winnipeg, Garry (Carol) of Didsbury Alberta and Don (Terry) of High Bluff; grandchildren Allan (May) in Vietnam, Daniel (Marilena) in Balzac Alberta, Jason (Caitlin) and David all of Portage,; great grandchildren Patrick, Lucas, Angelina, Brendan and Deacon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ab Giercke in January 1995 and her sisters Audrey Mulligan and Evelyn Gabriel.Phyllis was born in Portage la Prairie, June 8, 1920 and grew up in Poplar Point, Manitoba. She married Ab in June of 1943 and celebrated their 50th anniversary the summer before Ab's passing. Throughout their married life, mom and dad farmed in Mill Creek MB, Katrime MB, and retired to Portage la Prairie MB in 1973. Phyllis and Ab enjoyed many years of old time dances at the Portage West End Hall and in surrounding communities.

The family would like to express their thanks to home Care and Services for Seniors at Regency House for their years of care and the nursing staff at Portage Hospital in making Mom's final days peaceful.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church, 102 3rd Street SE, Portage la Prairie led Cecil Brown.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Phyllis' memory to a charity of choice.
