Peter Nikkel
On Thursday October 19, 2017, Peter Nikkel passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 73 years.
He was born in Portage la Prairie MB on March 19, 1944, the youngest of five children. He attended the Elm River School, living with his parents on the Community Fellowship Church yard. He attended Winkler Bible School for a year, then worked as a truck driver for the City of Winnipeg for several years. He also completed a barbering course at Red River College and was a barber for some time. Due to an interest in electronics he took a course by correspondence so he could fix people’s TVs. He lived with his parents, faithfully looking after their needs. His father passed away in 1984. Peter was very much involved in his mother’s care until she died in 2006 at the age of 97. Shortly thereafter he moved to Kawende Court in Oakville where he resided until his death. On October 12 Peter suffered a severe heart attack and died on October 19, 2017.
Peter was predeceased by his parents Ed and Mary Nikkel, and all of his siblings: Erdman (Eddy) Nikkel, Jacob Nikkel, Helen Kosminuk and Mary LaFontaine.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11am at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel with viewing prior to the service.
