After a lengthy and courageous battle with Dementia, Paul peacefully passed away on February 18, 2022 at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg at the age of 65.
Paul was predeceased by his father William in 1981 and mother Helen in 2005. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Leona (Wayne) Bergson, brothers Donny (Dianne) Todoruk, David (Tracy) Todoruk and nieces Nicole Bergson, and Kaitlyn and Alana Todoruk. Aunts Doreen Todoruk and Kay Hill, Uncles Andrew Romaniuk and Sonny Todoruk along with his cousins and family friend Kathy Twiss will truly miss him.
Paul was born August 1, 1956 in Portage la Prairie in and lived there until the family moved to Brandon in 1963 where he attended King George School. In 1968, his family returned to Portage where he attended North Memorial and Prince Charles Schools before 2 years at St. Vladimir’s College in Roblin MB in 1973 -1975. He then attended Portage Collegiate Institute. He earned a Certificate in Computer Programming from Red River Community College in 1987.
Paul worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Manitoba Developmental Center from 1977 until his retirement in 2011 working Nights in Northgrove and Eastgrove buildings. He was an active member of the Portage Unit of the 26th Field Artillery Regiment, Army Reserve from the mid 1970’s to the early 1980’s. He volunteered his time with the Knights of Columbus Portage Chapter attaining 4th degree Knight status and was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Assumption.
Paul loved country music and enjoyed many concerts and country music festivals. Paul was a selfless and gentle man who always made sure his family had rides to work, had an extra 5 dollars to lend when in need and was devoted to his mother, especially during her illness. He always made sure everyone was looked after before himself. Sharing coffee with friends, especially his MDC colleagues, was a favourite pastime.
During his illness, Paul was cared for at the Extended Care Unit of Portage General Hospital, Tuxedo Villa Care Home and for the last 10 years at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. The family is grateful to the staff for the care he received during his illness, especially at Holy Family Home.
Cremation has taken place and at Paul’s request, a family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to celebrate Paul’s life can be made to Holy Family Home c/o Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB,
