Patricia Gail Pilkington (nee Williams)

April 17, 1944 — July 16, 2024

Peacefully on July 16th, 2024 Patricia Gail Pilkington passed away surrounded by her family at the age of 80 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Gordon of 55 years; children Lynn (Donald) Dyker, Lana (George) Moir, Lisa (Neill), and Sheldon (Erin); grandchildren Kala, Brandon, Daylen, Kaiden, Ethan, Emily, Bradey, Liam & Cole; great grandchildren Lilly, Zane & Josephine. Also left to cherish her memory are brothers Owen (Pat), Dwight (Carol) and sister-in-law Joan Williams, in-Laws Wilfred (Carol) Pilkington, Connie (Paul) Brown and Lynn Ross as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents James & Doreen, Brothers Dalis (Florence Welton) and Blaine, sister Sheryl (Bob) Botterill, mother and father-in-law Clarice & Bill, brothers-in-law Stan Ross & Willie Bilawchuk and great granddaughter Azalia.

Mom was born and raised in the Salem District attending school at both Salem & PCI.

Mom met our dad in 1968 at an old-time dance at which our grandmother Clarice happened to be playing piano (truth be told she actually pointed our mom out when dad was looking for a dance partner). He followed her home, and the rest is history.

Our mom was always up for an adventure…. Anything could be suggested ranging from strawberry picking to driving across the country and her response would always be the same “let me get my purse”. This was especially true when it came to her kids, anything we were doing she wanted to be part of it always… This willingness led her on several trips with Owen, Pat and Joan, for which we are extremely grateful. She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, watching curling, casino trips, road trips and time spent at Lynn’s cabin with all the kids. Most of all she loved spoiling her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mom started her working career off as an aide at the Portage Hospital and then had several positions involving a kitchen, which led her to self-employment running the cafeteria in the Provincial Building alongside her good friend Betty Knott for over 20 years. It was in that building her baking and Christmas dinners were enjoyed not only by family but employees that became friends. She hung up her apron in 2009 preparing for a busy retirement only to be diagnosed with dementia.

Our dad took great care of her at home until he was unable to do so anymore, leading to the Lions Prairie Manor and finally settling at the Douglas Campbell Lodge.

Our family would like to thank the staff for their comfort and care during her last several years at both nursing homes.

As per our mom’s wishes there will be no service and cremation has taken place.

If friends so wish, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 1V1, would be greatly appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
