On Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta, Pat Murphy peacefully passed away in the arms of her daughter, Kelli, after a brief battle with cancer. Pat was predeceased by her parents Knowlson and Evelyn McDermid and is survived by her husband John, daughter Kelli and grandsons Eric and Kevin, all of Calgary. Also left to cherish Pat's memory are her brothers and sisters, all of Portage, Kathy Ward, Wendy (Randy) Gretsinger, Susan (Ian) Bailey, Butch (Cindy) McDermid and Kelly (Byrna) McDermid and several nieces and nephews. Pat will also be missed by her longtime friends Chris, Sally and Mary.
Pat was born on November 7th, 1945 to Knowlson and Evelyn McDermid of Portage la Prairie. She attended Victoria School and graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute. She spent most of her adult life working in Portage at the Manitoba Telephone System, MPIC and RCMP, where she enjoyed the friendship of her colleagues. Pat and her husband John relocated to Calgary in 2007 to be closer to Kelli and her family. Pat was diagnosed with cancer in August 2010 and fought the disease bravely.
A come and go reception in celebration of Patricia's life will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Pat's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or a charity of their choice.
