A loving and devoted father, brother, uncle and grandfather, Norman George “Spike” Catcheway was called into rest with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Georgie leaves to mourn his son Curtis (Cindy) and grandson Nathaniel; stepsons Vance and Elvis; stepdaughters Kathy (Albert), Yvette, Susan, and Matilda (Edward); brother Kerry; sisters Rose and Martha; along with numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to many to name.  He was predeceased by his parents Johnny and Susanne (Delorande) Catcheway; siblings a sister in infancy, Olive, Flora and Florance; brothers Alphonse and James; brother-in-law Pastor Gilbert; sisters-in-law Theresa and Martha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Georgie was born in Duck Bay, MB on January 17, 1939 to Johnny and Susanne (Delorande) Catcheway.  He was taken to attend the residential schools in Pine Creek, MB until the age of 14 years.  He then moved to Skownan, MB where he lived for a good while before relocating to Carmen, MB in 1996.  He then moved his life to Winnipeg, MB where there he lived out the rest of his years.

Georgie worked many jobs in his lifetime, some of them including farming, fishery and contracting jobs.  He did logging and pole cutting in the late 1960’s.  In 1997, he volunteered with the Red River flood in Winnipeg, MB.  He had many talents that included trapping, fishing, gardening; as well as playing numerous instruments.  He taught his nieces to play the guitar.

Georgie was a firm believer in our Lord Jesus Christ.  He really enjoyed reading his bible and attending the family gospel tents, or any services for that matter.  He would always preach the word to his family members and friends.

Georgie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Viewing will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm and will also be lived streamed.  Please click on the link to register to view the service. https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=5b759ebe-3c13-4a08-a61a-6eb5a3243f88 The service will be led by Frances Roulette. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to send gratitude to the doctors and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care for Grandpa as well as Pastor Frances Roulette and the congregation for all their help.  Also to those who sent many heartfelt condolences to our family during this difficult time.
