Myrtle Annie Thomson

(nee Rae)

Peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2010, Myrtle Thomson passed away in the Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 87 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jack "Doc" Thomson of the Douglas Campbell Lodge; son Rae (Judy) of Oakville and granddaughter Cindy (Jason) Cousin with great grandson Robbie and granddaughter Jackie (Bert) deVries; son Craig (Heather) of MacGregor with grandchildren Kendra (Kasey Brown), Brittany, Ashton and Landon; brother Jack (Dorothy) Rae of Portage la Prairie; brothers-in-law Robert Thomson of Miami and Peter (Pat) Thomson of Winnipeg. Myrtle was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Keith Armishaw.

Myrtle was born and raised on the family farm in Poplar Bluff. She worked as secretary to the Ag Rep for Portage la Prairie prior to marrying Jack "Doc" Thomson on September 24, 1949. Myrtle then kept herself very busy raising her family, helping "Doc" operate the vet clinic out of their home, working in the family bee-keeping operation and being a valued volunteer. Agriculture was always close to mom's heart. She worked with the Portage Industrial Exhibition Association as secretary-manager for a number of years and was involved as a volunteer for 45 years. Myrtle was a Life Member of the Ruth Rebeka Lodge and was awarded the 50 year pin; was a Life Member and Past President of the ANAF Women's Auxiliary and volunteered hours for catering to weddings, funerals and meetings; and was a member of Trinity United Church. In 2002 she was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee medal for her years of dedicated service to the community and in 2003 was given Life Membership to MAAS for recognition of her 45 year association with the Portage Fairboard. Myrtle also loved time with her family. In earlier years she loved to spend time at her cottage at Delta with nieces and nephews and in later years with her children and grandchildren. She was always supportive of her children's and grandchildren's activities and loved to attend all the concerts and sporting events.Myrtle and Jack have resided at Douglas Campbell Lodge for the last three and a half years. The family would like to thank the staff there for all their wonderful care given over these years.

Service to celebrate Myrtle's life will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Church led by Rev. Julie Baker. Myrtle will be laid to rest with a private family interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
