Myrle Rietta MacKay
(Zimmerman)
It is with great sadness and love that the family announce the passing of Myrle on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
Although we will miss her immensely we know she has reunited with Don, the love of her life. Myrle was predeceased by her husband in 1975, parents Elmer and Rita Zimmerman, brother Clayton and her son-in-law Ray Whiteway. She will be lovingly remembered by her family: daughter Myrna (late Ray) Whiteway, grandson Morgan (Monica) Whiteway, great-grandson Keelan and grandson Brock Whiteway all of Winnipeg; daughter Beth (Robert) Weaver of Calgary, grandson Christopher (Mitsuko) Weaver, great-granddaughters ZoA and ChloAC. of Toyko, Japan, granddaughter Robin (Dave) Tizzard and great-grandsons Talin and Holt of La Corey, Alberta; son Scott (Lori) MacKay and grandsons Calum and Bryce all of Calgary
Myrle was born on May 6, 1920 and grew up in the Curtis District. After graduating from Portage Collegiate and Normal School in Winnipeg, she taught at Elm River Hutterite Colony and in Stoney Mountain. In 1945 Myrle married Don and together they owned and operated Monarch Manor as well as the Yellow Quill Motel. After Don's early passing she moved to the home Don had built for his parents on Tupper Street, where she resided until moving to Dalton Grove Estates.
Myrle lived with the utmost integrity, strength and determination. Her life revolved around her family, her church and her community. As the role model for her family she always supported family activities, enjoyed family gatherings and nurtured family ties. She was an active member of Trinity United Church offering her many strengths and talents: Sunday School, C.G.I.T., Presbytery, U.C.W. (Life Member) and many positions on the church board. Her membership with Ruth Rebekah Lodge #3 spanned over fifty years and included holding a variety of offices and receiving the Declaration of Chivalry. Myrle volunteered endlessly in her community providing her services to Lions Prairie Manor, Meals on Wheels, Portage District General Hospital Auxiliary, Herman Prior Senior Centre, Quilting Grannies and many local special events.
A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Church on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.
