Murray Stewart Rea

With deep sadness we announce that on Monday June 27, 2016, at the Portage and District General Hospital, Murray Rea of Oakville, MB passed away on his 76th birthday.

Predeceased by his parents Jeannie Rea in 1949 and Wilfred Rea in 1991, wife Sharyn in 2000, son Tracy in 1987, infant daughter Pamela Jean in 1962, sisters Helen Whenham , Linda Caswell, and Marlene Punak, and brother David Rea.  He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law, Ed Vandermeulen, Keith Whenham, Morris Vandenberghe, Eldon Chalmers, Jack Leslie, Darryl (Snook) Campbell and Bob Campbell, as well as sisters-in-law Leita Campbell and Bev Ingram.

Murray leaves to mourn his passing his son David and his wife Teresa, grandson Campbell and granddaughter Bailey.   Also surviving are four sisters Ruth Vandermeulen, Shirley Vandenberghe, Lois (Wendell) Shaw, and Elaine Chalmers, and two brothers Bob (Marilyn) Rea, and Gordon (Joyce) Rea

Murray was born on June 27, 1940 in Deloraine, MB.  He was the middle child of 11 children. He moved to the Oakville area at a young age, and started working on farms for Manny Staples, Joe Omichinski and Bus Barker. Later he drove trucks for Red Gallagher and Dave Zerkee.  Following that he owned the Esso bulk agency in Oakville and later worked for Portage Agri Sales until his retirement.

Murray married Sharyn (nee Campbell) on January 20, 1962 and they resided in Oakville.   He enjoyed his garden, golfing, curling and watching all kinds of sports, but seemed to get the most enjoyment out of cursing at the referees during a Montreal Canadiens game.

We would like to thank all the family, friends, and neighbors for their well wishes and visits during Dad's hospital stay as well as Dr Gray and the nursing staff at the Portage Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am, with Shirley McLaren officiating.  Interment to follow in Oakville Cemetery.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
