Suddenly, after a brief illness, Murray Wesley Grant Cumberland passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 63 years. He is survived by his wife Donna (nee Hewitt), daughter Dana (Clint) Huber, grandson Brady; sisters Donna Gilbert of Portage la Prairie, Diane Hill-Hinse of Langley BC and brother Milford of Pitt Meadows BC and nieces and nephews.

Murray was born and raised in Portage la Prairie. After marrying in May 1971 he moved to Oakville where he resided for 41 years. He was employed by Canada Post as a Letter Carrier for 36 years before retiring in May 2004.

Murray had a love of Standardbred horses and harness racing. He owned, trained and raced horses for most of his life. He traveled throughout Canada to train and race horses while developing many friendships along the way. Other interests included a love of gardening, baseball, curling and spending as much time as he could with his grandson Brady.

All are welcomed to attend a Graveside Service at Hillside Cemetery in Portage la Prairie at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 30, 2012. Please gather at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 10:15 AM.

A Celebration of Murray's life will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Knox United Church, Oakville, MB led by Rev. Julie Baker.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Murray's memory to Knox United Church, Box 246, Oakville, MB, ROH OYO or to a charity of your choice.
