Mary Muriel Waddell
(nee Hunter)
Peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2010, Muriel Waddell passed away with family by her side, in the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 92 years.
Muriel was born July 5, 1918 to Charles Grant & Margaret Hunter at Atwater, Saskatchewan. On November 19, 1948 she married Victor Waddell. She completed her Registered Nurse's training in June 1944 in Carman, Manitoba. It was while in training she met her husband, Victor Waddell since his sister, Florence was taking her RN at the same time. After they were married they farmed together on the Waddell family farm at Sperling, MB. In 1960 they moved to a farm near Portage la Prairie, MB until 1979 when they moved to the city of Portage la Prairie. In the 1970's Muriel went back nursing at Holiday Retreat until she retired. In August 2006 Muriel moved into Lions Prairie Manor due to ill health.
She was predeceased by her husband, Victor Waddell in 2003. Muriel is lovingly remembered by her daughter Betty Ann, son Terry (Ellen), daughter Kathy, son Bruce, daughter Mary-Lee (Brian) Chartrand, son Rickey with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by sister-in-law, Myrtle Hunter; nephews, nieces and numerous friends.
Muriel listened to the simple message of the gospel told by two of God's servants, in her youth at 15yrs old, making her choice to serve God in July 1933. She was faithful to her choice all of her life.
A viewing will be held Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Portage Sport & Cultural Association (Bingo Hall) 234 Princess Ave, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, officiated by Richard Knight and David Jury. Interment is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens led by Jim Atcheson.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Muriel's memory to Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4 or to a charity of your choice.
