Muriel Ada Jessiman

(nee Knox)

Peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, Muriel Jessiman passed away, at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 93 years.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband John "Slim" Jessiman in 2002; parents John and Laura Knox. Left to treasure her memory are her special caregivers Joanne, Ken and Keith Knox; special chosen daughter Jo-Ann (Bob) Nicholls and their family of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; lifelong friend Evelyn Cook and many nieces and nephews.

Muriel was born in the Valleystream District on October 17, 1917. She moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba at the age of nineteen and spent her entire life here. During these years she worked at the Portage Hotel, Portage Soda Waterworks and North American Lumber. Muriel was a devoted Member of Electa Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Portage Friendship Centre, Portage Royal Canadian Legion and doing banquets and teas at the Masonic Hall. Muriel enjoyed golfing in her younger days and reading later on in her life until she lost her sight due to macular degeneration. She was a very positive and upbeat person right to the very last day. The Knox stubborn streak allowed her to stay in her home up to the very last day.

Our dear aunt Muriel will be forever remembered in our hearts and sadly missed by all that knew her.

A Memorial Service will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 2:30 pm led by Rev. Beth Kerr. Muriel will be laid to rest beside her husband at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Muriel's memory to Children's Wish Foundation, Portage Regional Committee, Box 1106, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3C5 or Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3N9.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
