Mildred Pearl Gilchrist
(nee Hendrickson)
With family at her side, Mildred Gilchrist, widow of the late Alston Gilchrist, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the age of 78 years.
She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Germaine Hendrickson and one brother Harry Hendrickson. Mildred was born February 19, 1932 in Laclu near Kenora, Ontario, the oldest of eight children. In June 1949, at the age of 17, she married Alston Gilchrist and they resided in Fort William, Brandon and finally settled in Portage la Prairie in 1958.
She is survived by her five children, Bonnie (Jim) Cavers of Portage la Prairie, Lyle (Della) of Minnedosa,MB, Colleen (Doug) Simpson of Portage la Prairie, John (Gail) of Wynyard, Sask and Jeannie (Walter) Kaiser of Kenora, ON; as well as 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her three sisters Marie (Emile) Gionet of Prince George, BC, Jean Valad of Walkerton, ON and Doris (Pete) Chopik of Regina, Sask.; three brothers Raymond, Jimmy and Bert Hendrickson all of Kenora, ON; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the Lions Prairie Manor Parkside staff for their very compassionate care for the past three years.
There will be no formal funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred's memory to Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4 or a charity of your choice.
