It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Sangris on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the age of 51 at Portage General Hospital with his family by his side.
Michael was born in Yellowknife in 1967, his grandparents were Alec and Elizabeth Charlo. His early years were spent in Dettah and when he was four years old the family moved to the city of Yellowknife. Michael had his challenges in life from the time he was born, and at the age of nine Michael moved to the Manitoba Developmental Center. A facility aimed for the mentally challenged in Portage la Prairie, MB. He was there for many years to gain developmental life skills at the center until his passing. Throughout the years, he was visited by families and friends and he understood his culture and language which he loved. The center also had other residents of indigenous descent and programs that kept their culture alive with them.
Michael has returned home to be put to rest by his late brother Lawrence Sangris.
Michael was loveable and loved and held a special place in everyone’s hearts that he touched. His long journey and memorable memories has brought us together to see him carry on enjoying life with Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Michael’s life at 1:30 pm, at the Aspen Worship Centre on Thursday, October 18, 2018 led by Father Gerald Langevin.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
