It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we regret to announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Marcotte, after his courageous battle with cancer on April 16, 2025, at the Portage General Hospital with his loving family by his side, at the age of 72 years.
Mike was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, grandfather, and a true friend to many. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley (Mallette) Marcotte, his rock and constant companion through his life’s journey. Together, they built a family grounded in love, strength, and enduring devotion.
He was the father of four incredible children - Vince, Mike Jr. (Erica), Ryan, and Derek (Carlee) and six even more incredible grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He also leaves behind his brothers Pat Marcotte (Jane) and Brian Lounds and sister Vivian Longmuir, and his brothers-in-law, Felix (Reane), Wilfrid (Connie) and Jeffery (Doriane) Mallette, as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Muriel and Vincent Marcotte, brothers Jim Lounds and Gerry Marcotte, sister Kate Sanderson.
He lived for his family, and his greatest happiness came from their laughter, their accomplishments, and the time they shared together. He was a knowledgeable man with a strong character and integrity. His sense of humor was contagious, he will be sadly missed, and his memory will live on in our hearts by all who loved him and those who knew him.
Mike had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found peace in the stillness of nature. He loved fishing in quiet waters, hunting in the early morning light, and sharing those passions with family and friends. These moments were more than hobbies - they were a way of life that reflected his love of simpler things.
Though cancer took him from us too soon, it never stole his spirit, his strength, or his kindness. He faced every challenge with grace and determination, never losing the warmth in his heart or the twinkle in his eye.
He will be missed beyond words. His memory will live on in the stories we tell, the values he instilled, and the love he gave so freely. Mike taught us how to live with purpose, love without limits, and find joy in everyday moments.
Rest easy, Mike. “You are deeply loved, and you will be forever in our hearts”.
In keeping with his wishes no formal funeral services will be held and his family will celebrate his life privately, which will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike, can be made to the Cancer Care of Manitoba and/or to the Manitoba Kidney Foundation.
A tree will be planted and cared for by the McKenzie Portage Funeral Chapel… www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 204-857-4021.
