Maxine Eileen Lytle
(nee Ross)
Peacefully on October 20, 2013, Maxine Lytle passed away in the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 94 years.
Maxine was predeceased by her loving husband Lorne; her daughter Karen Handford of High Bluff; her sisters Gwen (Lorne) Martin of Reston, Clarice (Jim) Duncan of Canmore, AB and Sylvia Ross of Antler, SK; her brother Claude Ross of Redvers, SK; and her infant granddaughters Julie and Jennifer Lytle of High Bluff. Lovingly remembered by her son Bob (Barb) Lytle of High Bluff, grandchildren Ryan (Lisa) Lytle of Winnipeg, Kimberley (Dave) Tkachuk of High Bluff, great grandchildren Riley and Dylan Tkachuk; grandchildren Lisa (Kevin) Tipper of Moosejaw, SK, Trevor Handford of Portage la Prairie, great grandchildren Richard and William Tipper; brother Ford (Regina) Ross of Antler, SK, sister Eunice Jensen of Innisfail, AB, and sister-in-law Delma Ross of Redvers, SK and many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was born on March 17, 1919 on the family farm in Antler, Saskatchewan. She was the third of seven children born to Clarence and Bessie Ross. She attended school at Braeside and Antler and she moved to Portage La Prairie to work in the Metropolitan Store where she met the love of her life William Lorne Lytle. They married on May 26, 1943 and had two children, Robert and Karen. They farmed the Lytle home farm in High Bluff from 1949 until 1972 when their son took over.
Maxine was a Girl Guide leader for many years, taught Sunday school and was a member of the U.C.W.. She was always interested in doing crafts and gardening. Maxine was a member of the Ruth Rebekah Lodge and received their highest distinction, the Decoration of Chivalry, of which she was very proud. She worked many long hours volunteering with the Portage Plains Cancer Society and received a recognition of long service. She also received a plaque for recognition of 20 years of service with the Fort la Reine Museum.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the McKenzie Portage Funeral Chapel, led by Rev. Julie Baker. A private interment will occur prior to the service at the Mackenzie Cemetery in High Bluff.
