Mary Loghrin Gourley
(nee Armishaw)
Mary Loghrin Gourley, 87, daughter on the late George and Jean Armishaw, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Mission, BC on Tuesday, August 31st 2010 due to complications from cancer.
Mary was born on March 30th, 1923 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She married David Gourley in 1943. Upon David's return in 1946 from overseas, Mary and Dave farmed in the Portage area. In 1952 David joined Indian Affairs, which led to transfers east where they lived in Sydney & Amherst Nova Scotia along with Woodstock & Fredericton New Brunswick. Mary and David retired in 1982 to their beloved cottage in Shediac, New Brunswick where they remained until David's death in 2006. It was at this time that Mary moved to Harrison Mills, B.C. where she lived with her son, Harold for her remaining years. In addition to raising her four children, Mary's working life included school teacher, store clerk, and many years with the Sears catalogue division.
Mary is survived by her daughter Marlyne Abouelwafa; sons Robert, Harold and Jeff; sister Grace Street and brother Tom of Portage La Prairie; eight grandchildren Tina, Niki, Bronwyn, Julie, Ryan, Adam, Neil and Adam; four great grandchildren Cole, Amy, Brody, and Kyla. In addition to her parents and loving husband David, Mary is predeceased by her sister Margaret Lamb, brother Keith Armishaw and an infant grandson Dean Gourley.
A Graveside Service, open to all, will be led by Wilma Shirriff at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday October 16, 2010 at 11:30 am followed by a reception at Trinity United Church, 15 Tupper Street S., beginning at 12:30 pm.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made, in Mary's name, directly to The Christine Morrison Hospice, 7324 Hurd Street, Mission, BC V2V 3H5.
