Peacefully, on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 Martin Fontaine, beloved husband of Grace and father of Cyril (Lydia) began his journey to the spirit world at the age of 81 years.
Martin is survived by his siblings Lena (Francois), Julie Paul, Myrtle Fontaine, Matthew Fontaine and Nelson Fontaine.
Martin was the proud grandfather of Ryan Fontaine, Mitchell Fontaine, Toshina Fontaine, Sequyah Fontaine and Matty Bartlett, step-daughter Miranda Leask and 13 great-grandchildren.
Martin was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth A. Fontaine, father William George Fontaine, siblings Clarence Fontaine, Lisa Wilson, Lawrence Fontaine, Florence Fontaine, Ernie Fontaine, and an infant brother, and daughter-in-law Esther Lilly-Ann Leask-Fontaine.
Martin worked 15 years on the CP Railroad, where he travelled to many different places in Canada. Martin also had various jobs in Winnipeg while residing there, such as working at a janitor at the Health Sciences Centre and Sinclair Park Community Centre until his retirement. Martin always enjoyed watching his favorite hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets, watching WWE Wrestling, especially the WWE pay-per-view events. Martin enjoyed having visitors constantly by his family through the years and enjoyed having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around. One of Martin’s favorite times to himself was listening to country classics from Johnny Cash, who happened to shake his hand in person in the early 70’s, and watching the movies that he collected over the years. Martin also enjoyed playing crib with his grandsons and his nephew Trenton. Martin will be truly missed by everyone who touched his heart.
