It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Marguerite C. Ruddell on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Gordon (Debby) Ruddell of Trochu, AB, with granddaughters Michelle (Nasser) and Stacy;  son Gerald (Ronda) Ruddell with grandson Tyler of Grand Prairie, AB, grandchildren Ryan (Megan), Sheena (Dustin) their mother Simone and daughter Virginia Ruddell of Winnipeg, MB, with granddaughters  Misty (Cleyton) and Kathleen (Neil); 9 great grandchildren; siblings Kathleen (Alvin) Ruddell of Wpg, MB and Jack Hurst of Vernon, BC and many caring nieces and nephews.

Marguerite was born on September 7, 1930 in the Portia District in Alonsa, MB.  She was a person who was always in the giving spirit, loved a good joke and sharing lunch with special friends at the Herman Prior Centre.  She was involved for many years with Portage District Art Centre and wrote their 25th anniversary book.  Her passion was with her painting and passing the knowledge on to others through volunteering at the Herman Prior Centre for many years, also judging exhibits at the Portage Ex. In 2011 was acknowledged  by the Minister of Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors with the MB Council on Aging Recognition Award for her countless hours of volunteering teaching seniors to paint. She has held many art shows over the years. Her last called Wild Wings (collection of birds) was a combination of her 80th birthday and granddaughter’s wedding.

Service to celebrate Marguerite’s life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Herman Prior Centre.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Marguerite’s memory to the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road N, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1V1 or McKenzie United Church Memorial Fund, 85-11th St, NW, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 2S2.
