Peacefully at her residence in the Lions Prairie Manor, Margaret Barton, wife of the late Alan Barton, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the age of 93 years.

Margaret was born March 10, 1919 in Durham, England to Herbert and Susannah Swainston. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Margaret worked in a restaurant before joining the army in 1942. After working in a hospital, she came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride and married Alan Barton. They lived on the farm for a while and then moved into town where they sold vegetables which they grew. Margaret also found pleasure in growing flowers, playing the piano and the mouth organ and her travels to the States.

In her later life, Margaret made the Lions Prairie Manor her home and family. She enjoyed the various activities and her connections with the staff and residents.

Funeral Service will be held at the Lions Prairie Manor Chapel on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm led by Rev. Beth Kerr. Interment is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4 or to a charity of choice.
