Peacefully with family at her side, Annie “Mabel” McDonald passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 92 years.

She is predeceased by her parents James and Hazel McFadden; husband John “Davey” Alvin McDonald; son-in-law Craig Lyall; siblings Tom (Margie) McFadden, Ora (Howard) Johnston; brothers- in-law Lloyd McDonald, Howard (Jean) McDonald and sister-in-law Beth (Bob) Boyle.

Mabel is lovingly remembered by her children; Beverley (Arthur) Barrett of Portage la Prairie, Shelley Lyall (Doug) of Portage la Prairie, Pam (Floyd) Price of Westbourne and estranged daughter Marla Jill (Phil) Lander of Portage la Prairie.  She is also lovingly remembered by grandchildren Jennifer (Cody) Roy, Heather (Geoff) Roy, John Barrett, David Lyall, Dana (Darren) McCallum, Carly (Ryan) Kontzie, Marlo (Debbi) McArthur, Tyson McArthur (Caley), Steven (Melissa) McArthur, Lee Price, Amanda and Jena Lander;  great grandchildren Daylon, Jared, and Charlize Roy, Brennan Roy, Cortney Lyall, Cassie, Chace and Ethan McCallum, Layne and Brantley Kontzie, Paige and Alex McArthur, Santana and Jace Payne, Emmett McArthur.  Mabel is survived by brother in Law Hubert McDonald, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mabel was born on December 27, 1921, the daughter of James and Hazel McFadden on the McFadden Farm in the RM of Portage and attended school in the West Prospect District and furthered her education achieving her grade 10 in Portage la Prairie.  Mabel worked on her Aunt Edna and Uncle George Bowes farm and later worked for the Narvey Family.  In the 1940’s Mabel was employed by Manitoba Telephone System, as a Telephone Operator until 1951 when she married Davey on June 23, 1951 and resided on the family farm in East Prospect District and raised her four daughters.

Mabel enjoyed the cottage at Delta Beach spending most summers there with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Mabel enjoyed playing baseball and bocci ball on the sandy beach of Delta.  She also loved to bowl and belonged to League Bowling in Portage la Prairie where she came home with numerous trophies and awards.  She loved travelling with Davey to Hawaii and Las Vegas every winter and also enjoyed her trips to the Shooting Start Casino with her sister Ora and friends.  Many laughs were had on their bus trips to the Casino. Mabel enjoyed Grey Cup parties at the family lodge every year with family and friends.

Mabel enjoyed her yard, gardening, reading, watching curling on TV, listening to Lawrence Welk, Stattler Brothers, Anne Murray and Tommy Hunter.  She also enjoyed playing card games and Crokinole board games with her family.

A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, October 24, 2014.  A reception at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel for family and friends will follow at 2;00 pm.
