Alice "Lorraine" Demman

After a short illness, on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Lorraine Demman passed away at the age of 79 years.

Predeceased by her parents Gill and Jean Ross and brother Stanley Ross, she leaves behind her devoted husband William Demman of Portage la Prairie; children Murray (Brenda) Demman of Ucluelet, BC and Melinda Boyd of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren Caitlin Boyd of Surrey, BC, Christine Boyd of Portage la Prairie and Kimberley and Darren Jones of Port Alberni, BC; great grandson Layne Aymont and many nieces and nephews.

Born at Portage la Prairie, Lorraine attended school first at Edwin, and later Portage Collegiate.  In 1956, she married William Demman. In her working life, Lorraine was employed at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Stewart-Greenslade insurance, and was secretary for the local Conservation Office.  She enjoyed oil-painting, reading, knitting, golf, and bowling, and was an avid supporter of the Portage Terrier hockey team. She especially enjoyed time spent with friends over coffee or a game of cards, and will be greatly missed by sisters-in-law Ruby Unger and Shirley Martin.

A time of visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 27 th at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Marg Scott.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to McKenzie United Church, 85-11th St, NW, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 2S2
