With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Loretta Maxine Kuryk, aged 86 years, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Loretta immersed herself in farming and community activities in Newton and Oakville, and was devoted to caring for her family. She especially enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and volunteering with various organizations, including the United Church Women’s Group. She loved travelling to visit children and grandchildren in various cities throughout western Canada and the U.S. Music and church activities played a large part in Loretta’s life. For many years, Loretta worked at the Oakville Mushroom Farm. Loretta was loved for her kind and generous spirit, her quiet presence and her sense of humour.
Lovingly remembered by her husband, John Kuryk; children Laura of San Antonio, Texas, Robin of Portage la Prairie, Richard (Brenda) of Calgary, Alberta, Randy of Sicamous, British Columbia, Darryl of Kelowna, British Columbia, and Stacy (John) of Winnipeg. She has been blessed with nine grandchildren, David, Bradley (Alyssa) and Melanie, Jodi (Mike) and Leigh, Tiffany, Austin and Kolten, and Monica, and two great grandchildren, Michael and Sofia. Loretta also enjoyed the company of her nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.
Loretta was predeceased by her husband Walter Kuryk; brother Keith Tanner; sister Bettie McDonald; mother Nellie Rose Davis; father Frank Oliver Tanner; stepfather Art Davis and daughter Penny (Dave) Verwey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge for providing care and support for Loretta for the past three years.
Everyone is invited to a luncheon at Knox United Church, Oakville, MB on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 12:00 pm. A private graveside service was held at the Oakville Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Loretta’s memory to Parkinson Canada, 7 – 414 Westmount Dr. Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2.
