Linda Elaine Smith
(nee Paseshnik)
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Linda Smith on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the age of 67 years.
Left to cherish her memory, her beloved husband Bob Smith; children Kimberly Smith (Warren) of Portage, Michael Smith (Tami) of Portage, Geoffrey Smith (Dhalia) of Mumbai, India and Caryn Hirst (J.J.) of Hay River, NWT; grandchildren Alexandra, Cory, Shane, Trent, Dylan, Hudson, Sawyer and Tulsi; brother Ron (Sophie) Paseshnik of Winnipeg; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Linda was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Tec Voc High School where she met Bob. They married in 1965, and lived in Winnipeg, Mississauga, Morden and Portage la Prairie. Linda Touched many people's lives as her heart and mind knew no bounds in helping others. She was active in community organizations in Morden, ie. Kinettes, Corn & Apple Festival and Apple Blossom Marathon, as well as a partner in a successful business. Always one to put others needs before her own, Linda's ability to shine lifted many spirits. With an infectious laugh, ocean blue eyes, a style admired by many, a sharp mind and an endless giving heart, she lived life gracefully with humility. She loved traditions and working in her flower garden, golfing, bowling, holidaying in many countries and spreading her boundless love to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
"You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. Our family chain has been broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again."
The family would like to thank the Portage District General Hospital, Dr. David Kinnear, Cancer Care Staff, Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk, Cancer Care Manitoba and the Health Sciences Centre for all their care and compassion.
Service to celebrate Linda's life will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Julie Baker officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Linda's memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Sask. Ave.E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OK8.
