d. February 14, 2011

Leona Margaret Loeppky

Peacefully, on Monday February 14, 2011, with family by her side, Leona Loeppky went home to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 57 following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her children, Sheila Buechler (Al), Kevin Lepine (Brandy), Mandy Grove (Cameron), Travis Lepine (Tiffany) and her grandchildren Ashley, Devin, Kahlie, Ayden, Ava, Julia, and Cohen. Also left to cherish her memory are her brothers and sisters, Harold & Kathy Loeppky, Ervin Loeppky, Erma & David Buhler, John & June Loeppky, Dorothy White, Edward & Marg Loeppky , numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and very special friend Doris Harder. She was predeceased by her parents David & Anna Loeppky.

Leona was born on April 9, 1953 in MacGregor, Manitoba and was raised on the family farm. When she left home, she faced many challenges and struggles and always faced them head on with a very strong and courageous spirit. She worked very hard all her life to provide for her children and her greatest accomplishment was completing her Health Care Aide Certificate at the age of 50. She took great pride in working at the Lion's Prairie Manor and seemed to have found her niche in life working with the elderly.

After she was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2006, her desire to live and her positive attitude allowed her to remain with her family as long as she did. She had such a zest for life and wanted to enjoy every moment with her family and friends. She loved to travel and took numerous random road trips. Leona loved being outside, especially in the morning with the sun shining on her while enjoying her coffee.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Omichinski and the many nurses and health care aides in the Palliative Care Unit at the Portage District General Hospital for their compassion and kindness shown to our dear mother and our family. Your kind words and thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated during this difficult time.

Funeral Service will be held at the Portage Evangelical Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 1:30pm led by Pastor Glenn Loewen.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Leona's memory to Sunset Palliative Care, Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
